Obama is not Constitutionally qualified to be President
In attempting to deflect the issue, Obama released a birth certificate on his website but it was immediately detected as an obvious forgery, having none of the usual seals, folds, and information required for HI certificates of live birth from that era. This was confirmed by separate graphic forensic investigators.
Additionally, evidence shows that Obama was born in Kenya. Obama's Fight The Smears website, designed to set the record straight about Barack Hussein Obama, has actually made it worse by stating the Democrat presidential candidate was a Kenyan citizen until 1982. He was also at one time an Indonesian citizen as well. School papers list Obama as a Muslim with Indonesian citizenship. Obama is not eligible to be President.
Berg's lawsuit is progressing, and September 24 was the deadline for Barack Obama to file a response to the lawsuit, initiated by Democrat lawyer Philip Berg, which charges Obama with not fulfilling the constitutional requirements to be elected president, since he is not a natural born citizen of the United States. Barack Obama did not actually respond: he introduced a motion for dismissal, a typical delaying maneuver that makes the defendant look even more suspect.
If Obama is a citizen, why doesn't he just produce the real certificate? Why deflect in a suspicious motion that doesn't actually answer the question?
The answer: because he is ineligible.

The Power of the People
Second, I an encouraged to see that there were so many millions of users tuning in to the House.gov website for information on the bill and on the e-mail form page to contact their congressman, that it swamped the site. Millions! I was one of them. I tuned in early and e-mailed Rep Paul Broun to say "NO, please vote against it." Later, when I wanted to send him a thank you, because he did vote against it, the site was swamped. Eventually I just called his Athens office.
House Web site overwhelmed as bailout bill fails
WASHINGTON - The House Web site was overwhelmed Monday as millions of computer users sought information about the financial bailout bill rejected by the House. "We haven't seen this much demand since the 9-11 commission report" was posted on the site in 2004, said Jeff Ventura, spokesman for the House Chief Administrative Officer. "We're being overwhelmed with Web traffic about the bill."
Despite all this, I am hearing the Representatives claim every reason in the book for the bill's failure, except the true one.
Here, as reported by the AP:
"Bush and a host of leading congressional figures had implored the lawmakers to pass the legislation despite howls of protest from their constituents back home."
Finally, one pundit on CNBC asked in absolute perplexity, "Do you think, I mean, do you think it may be because of...local pressure?"
Uh, yes, I do. The people! Despite being silenced by no media coverage, and despite being ignored by the media and often our own Congressmen (usually) THIS time, the people spike, and they were heard.

As a prelude to the financial news, I recall Ezekiel's funeral lament on Tyre's fall, it is chapter 27.My concordance says- "It compares the city to a ship, mentions its trading partners, and describes how the ship sank. Jesus spoke of Type as a city worthy of judgment. (Mt 11:22)"
"The beauty of Tyre was the source of its pride and Tyre's pride guaranteed its judgment. The lesson perhaps for today is that unwarranted conceit in our own accomplishments is a danger signal to us. James spike of it in ch 4:13-14"
Boasting About Tomorrow
Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money." Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes."
Though James was not specifically prophesying and was the lament for Tyre was really a lament for Tyre, the principles behind the passages is a good lesson for today's situations on Wall Street and Washington DC. Since God is the same yesterday and today and tomorrow, perhaps, since we are seeing a repeat of the sins of the merchants of the past we now should be ready for coming judgment? I leave you to ponder

New visitor center omits America's religious past
The Capitol Visitor Center (CVC) in Washington, D.C., is currently under construction but scheduled to open in December to an estimated 15,000 people a day. Virginia Representative Randy Forbes contends the exhibits displayed in the Visitor Center contain few and factually inaccurate references to the nation's religious heritage.
For example, the reference to "religion, morality, and knowledge" in the Northwest Ordinance is excluded. Forbes notes the national motto "In God We Trust" has even been removed from the underground building.
"As many people know in looking at C-SPAN, behind where the Speaker stands, there is [sic] a number of columns, and above those columns there is the inscription 'In God We Trust.' In the mock-up that's meant to simulate that area in the new Visitor Center, they've taken 'In God We Trust' out, and they just have gold stars that go across it," Forbes details. "And then when they made a picture of the Speaker's podium, they cropped the part that said 'In God We Trust.'"
Virginia bans Jesus Christ's name
Virginia Gov. Timothy Kaine is being called on the carpet by a national religious freedom advocacy organization after his administration implemented a new state policy forbidding state police chaplains from using "Jesus Christ" in public prayers, and half a dozen chaplains resigned in protest.

Pirates die strangely after taking ship
A tense standoff has developed in waters off Somalia over an Iranian merchant ship laden with a mysterious cargo that was hijacked by pirates.
Somali pirates suffered skin burns, lost hair and fell gravely ill “within days” of boarding the MV Iran Deyanat. Some of them died.
Andrew Mwangura, the director of the East African Seafarers’ Assistance Programme, told the Sunday Times: “We don’t know exactly how many, but the information that I am getting is that some of them had died. There is something very wrong about that ship.”What was ON that Iranian ship, anyway?

Uhhhhh: Family doesn’t want Obama wearing troop bracelet
Family Told Obama NOT To Wear Soldier Son's Bracelet...
Barack Obama played the "me too" game during the Friday debates on September 26 after Senator John McCain mentioned that he was wearing a bracelet with the name of Cpl. Matthew Stanley, a resident of New Hampshire and a soldier that lost his life in Iraq in 2006. Obama said that he too had a bracelet. After fumbling and straining to remember the name, he revealed that his had the name of Sergeant Ryan David Jopek of Merrill, Wisconsin.
Shockingly, however, Madison resident Brian Jopek, the father of Ryan Jopek, the young soldier who tragically lost his life to a roadside bomb in 2006, recently said on a Wisconsin Public Radio show that his family had asked Barack Obama to stop wearing the bracelet with his son's name on it. Yet Obama continues to do so despite the wishes of the family.
This from ABC: the father of the fallen soldier speaking:
"She had told me that in an email that she had asked, actually asked Mr. Obama to not wear the bracelet anymore at any of his public appearances."
I think it is a shame for Obama to wear the bracelet after having been asked not to. The mother didn't want it publicized, it was just to be a simple and a private thing between her and the candidate, to remember there were soldiers sying out there. Mostly, she was fearful of the issue becoming politicized. But to make matters worse, her worst fears did come true, for not only disrespected the mother's wish and Obama stop wearing it when asked, but when the time came to remember the soldier, which is the WHOLE POINT of wearing it, he forgot the soldier's name. He forgot.

Your Daily Doom: Thursday. Globalization, rumors of war, & bedbugs
Anyway, below are some highlights form today's letter:
GLOBAL ECONOMY/COMING ANTICHRIST - in order for this to happen, at some point we have to move from a free market capitalism structure among sovereign nations to total socialism under the guise of globalism. I believe that process is underway now. As George Ure characterizes it, "continue down a road which sure looks like the onramp to a global economic collapse"
Revelation 13:16-17 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
Does Wall Street bailout signal end of free market economy?
A member of the Senate Banking Committee says the massive Wall Street bailout proposal requested by Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson "will take away the free market and institute socialism in America."
UN Chief calls for 'global leadership'
UN chief Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday stressed the need for "global leadership" as he pressed world leaders not to pursue narrow national interests in the face of hard economic times. "I see a danger of nations looking more inward, rather than toward a shared future," he said at the opening of the UN General Assembly's annual debate. He spoke of a "challenge of global leadership" to tackle the world's worsening financial, energy and food crises.
World leaders seek talks on financial crisis, multilateral reforms
World leaders on Tuesday demanded urgent steps to contain the global financial crisis and a sweeping reform of multilateral institutions, including the Security Council, during the UN General Assembly's annual debate.
PESTILENCE AND INFESTATIONS:
Luke 21:11 There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places
Bedbugs make a return via low cost flights
Increased foreign travel and a lack of awareness have been blamed for the rise in bedbug infestations being reported by airlines, train and bus companies. Pest control company Rentokil says there has been a 40% rise in the number of call outs over the past 12 months from the transport industry. Britain is now struggling to cope with infestations not seen in half a century.

Fears grow in Lebanon as 10,000 Syrian troops arrive on the border
Syria has massed thousands of troops along its border with northern Lebanon in what officials in Beirut fear is a prelude to the first incursion since Syrian forces pulled out three years ago.
Although Damascus insists that its forces are conducting an antismuggling operation, the Lebanese Government is eyeing the moves with unease, believing that the unusual scale of the deployment has more to do with tensions between the two countries over recent sectarian clashes in northern Lebanon.
Mr Assad has also likened the situation between Syria and Lebanon to that of Russia and Georgia. His comments sparked speculation in Beirut that Damascus could be contemplating a military incursion into northern Lebanon to protect the Alawite community from the Sunni militants...

Payroll for MSAD 15 Administrators
"We are giving Mainers a new, clear look into how our state and local tax dollars are spent... down to the agency, person, and penny. This site is sponsored by The Maine Heritage Policy Center, a non-partisan, non-profit research and education organization promoting free enterprise, limited government and individual liberty."
It is fruitful to look and see where our money goes. A billion dollars in tax money was paid out last year, to payroll, retirement, and vendors. Government should be transparent, and I'm glad there are such organizations that take the time to post public information.
You can also search for payments to State retirees from every branch of government, and the colleges. You can search for vendors paid by the state, by town even. I searched for payments to vendors in Gray and New Gloucester. Below, I did a search for MSAD 15. The results list all 481 employees' salaries for 2007. 2008 will be posted soon. Four hundred eighty one! Boy that's a lot. I sorted by salary and the top Administrators came out on top, I list them below. I have no idea why some entries are posted twice for the same year...

The Light is in the world and evil hates It.
"This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.
"For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.
"But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God."
I have seen so many times that the Bible is right in what it says. I pay particular attention when I see written about the Light and the Dark/Evil, because I have seen it play out, exactly as the Bible describes, over and over. The Dark hates the Light. It scurries to hide from it, crouching in misery at the edges of its shadow, fearful to stand exposed and transparent yet muttering nonetheless about the unfairness of it all.
Light is never be afraid to stand, for Christ is with you, He is in you, and may Light's deeds be manifested as having been wrought in God indeed.
I do not know what it is about the passages about the Light that affect me so, maybe because I have seen it, experienced it, and know that it is utter glory and Truth. In any case, those who have Christ in You, be encouraged, for true Light has come int the world and it is good.

You got to do more than just show up
Obama voted "Present" over 130 times, as reported by the New York Times. Whoa! The NY Times reports it as an an issue. I agree.
For example: "Mr. Obama was also the sole 'present' vote on a bill that easily passed the Senate that would require teaching respect for others in schools. He also voted present on a measure to prohibit sex-related shops from opening near schools or places of worship"
Guiliani said it best, "nearly 130 times he was unable to make a decision yes or no. He simply voted "present. ..And you know, when you're President of the United States, you can't just vote "present." You must make decisions."
Its more than just showing up!
Obama lost without a teleprompter; Palin never missed a beat
On the other hand, when Gov. Palin's teleprompter malfunctioned during her speech at the Republican National Convention, she continued with out missing a beat, as reported by both Fox and MSNBC.
My town is SO small...
Friday was a warm but not hot day, and around 4pm I took off for a quick mail pick up. I grabbed my keys, one of which is the PO Box key, the other two being apartment and car, and biked into town. I checked and sorted my mail, then threw it into the bike basket & swung my leg over the Free Spirit and then rode home. End of story.
I deliberately did not use the car Saturday, squashing any and all almost-irresistible impulses to go yard sale-ing for crafty stuff. Sunday morning rolled around and at 9:30, five minutes later than I wanted to leave, I scooped up my bible and reached toward the hook for my keys. Not there!!
Holy Sunday School Director, Batman! I HAVE to be there, I start off the Sunday School at Sanctuary Assembly! I put in a quick call to a friend who lives almost across the street and hitched a ride. On the way in, I remembered where I'd left the keys, The Post Office table where I'd laid them down to sort my mail.
This morning I called the PO and the Postmaster answered. She laughed right away when I said my name, and said, "We were just talking about you! Are your ears burnin'?" Someone had turned in my keys before the PO had closed on Friday. "I put them in your box," she said. They were laughing that I hadn't noticed they were MIA for two and a half days, even more so when I said my car key was one of the missing.
My town is so small, someone was kind and turned them in.
My town is so small the Postmaster noticed my keyring and knew it was mine.

60th Annual Fair coming to town!
Here are some of my favorite photos from last year's fair!
Forget financial armageddon, I wanna talk about cheese
All that aside, let's talk about cheese! Namely my love for cheese. I love exotic cheese. I have been blessed with an interested palate all my life, and even when I was little exotic cheese was served in my house. I grew up knowing what Edam and Gouda were. How wonderful.
My favorite is goat cheese. I fondly recall sultry dinners on sidewalks cafes of Paris with goat cheese salads or goat cheese appetizers. France seemed synonymous with cheese. You know, the simple things of life like French bread and fresh cheese and cool wine. Whole shops dedicated to cheese, my kind of city.
I recall another cheese incident that occurred as I was traveling on the Italian train from Florence to Rome. I met a European Union Dignitary, and she and I were discussing food (after having had a lively discussion about the new European Union, just formed). I said I liked cheese. She was highly amused and corrected me immediately.
"Che-eese?! Che-eese?! Formaggi? No. No!" She went on to say that one must always say the cheese's specific name. Mozzarella, Pecorino, etc., they each have a name and a specific role in an Italian meal. Good to know.
When the local gentleman's farm opened up in New Gloucester, Maine, it wasn't long before they started tapping locals and local products to produce, and happily, one of them was cheese. They opened a creamery and I went on a tour. The interior of the dairy by necessity was spotless and antiseptic, with gleaming large stainless steel vats, and men in white lab coats and paper nets on their hair. Not much to take a photo of, so I looked inside one of the vats and saw the cheese paddles. Snap! I love this pic. After the dairy got up and running they made great cheese and it won awards almost right away. I'm glad the folks of Gray and New Gloucester have access to locally produced dairy products as well as meat and veggies.
And here's Monty Python's ode to cheese in the famous "Cheese Shop Sketch"
So that's my cheese story and I'm stickin' to it!

Who did the Palin e-mail hack? Ctunnel can find out
The story behind the Palin e-mail hacking
By Michelle Malkin • September 17, 2008 07:31 PM
This afternoon, I mentioned an infamous group of hackers whose Internet bulletin board was the gathering place for those who bragged about and publicized the Sarah Palin private e-mail hacking.
A tech-savvy reader who monitors the hackers’ site e-mailed me a detailed explanation of how it went down, who was responsible, and how someone with a conscience warned a friend of the Palin family of the crime (language warning):
I missed the original incident, but monitored the discussion and repostings afterward to see what I could learn about what had happened and who was responsible.
There are several misconceptions and errors in most accounts of this story, including your post. Most significantly, the perpetrator(s) were not members of an infamous group of hackers. I don’t blame you for misunderstanding this, because in all the media coverage regarding the war with Scientology the media has completely failed to explain what Anonymous is.
Anonymous is not exactly a group. It is people using the umbrella of a web discussion board for cover to be as offensive, funny, strange, or whatever as they want.
Here’s the short version: there is a site called 4chan.org. It is an image posting site based on a popular Japanese site. The site contains multiple boards, each of which is dedicated to a particular subject. The most notorious of these boards is called /b/. /b/ is the board dedicated to random images. /b/tards, as its denizens are called, are interested only in their own amusement. Their sense of humor runs the gamut from sick to cruel to merely strange. Lolcats, as made famous by http://www.icanhascheezburger.com, originated on /b/. A lot of memes start there. There is a lot of racist humor — pictures of excited and happy black people in proximity to fried chicken abound. There is a lot of pornography. Sometimes it’s child pornography, although posting that is moderator grounds for banning — no, it’s not a pedophile ring; /b/tards post it because they think doing so is funny.
4chan does not log participants. Most people don’t use or have usernames, and post instead as “Anonymous.” And every so often, a number of /b/’s anonymous denizens decide to make somebody’s life hell. Sometimes it’s a random person who offends /b/’s sense of propriety. Sometimes it’s a forum dedicated to a serious topic. Sometimes it’s Scientology. And Tuesday, it was Sarah Palin. Or it would have been.
Sarah Palin’s email account was hacked by one person. Not a group.
This person read her emails, then posted the username and password on /b/. This happened at about 4 in the morning on Tuesday. The idea was that the sea of Anonymous /b/tards would download the emails, upload porn, and cause all manner of mischief. Anonymous is not a group of hackers. Anonymous is more like gremlins. They are hyperactive adolescents in search of amusement and joy, which they often get by upsetting people and making messes. That’s what was happening here. Anonymous did not hack the account. A hacker tried to throw Sarah Palin to Anonymous. Not all of Anonymous was having it. One person threw a crowbar in the works. Other /b/tards were displeased to miss a chance at the lulz. The moderators stepped in. The thread was deleted.
Later, other individuals created threads reposting screencaps of emails and the inbox, and put together a collection of these files. All mentions of these were purged by the moderators. So then some bright /b/tards decided to email what little stuff they had to the media.
That’s pretty much it.
This afternoon, in a thread that was later deleted, an individual claiming to be the original poster gave his account of what happened. I’ve attached screencaps. Here’s the text. The original poster used the name “rubico.” The linked email address for the poster was rubico10@yahoo.com.
This is what rubico said:
rubico 09/17/08(Wed)12:57:22 No.85782652
Hello, /b/ as many of you might already know, last night sarah palin’s yahoo was “hacked” and caps were posted on /b/, i am the lurker who did it, and i would like to tell the story.
In the past couple days news had come to light about palin using a yahoo mail account, it was in news stories and such, a thread was started full of newfags trying to do something that would not get this off the ground, for the next 2 hours the acct was locked from password recovery presumably from all this bullshit spamming.
after the password recovery was reenabled, it took seriously 45 mins on wikipedia and google to find the info, Birthday? 15 seconds on wikipedia, zip code? well she had always been from wasilla, and it only has 2 zip codes (thanks online postal service!)
the second was somewhat harder, the question was “where did you meet your spouse?” did some research, and apparently she had eloped with mister palin after college, if youll look on some of the screenshits that I took and other fellow anon have so graciously put on photobucket you will see the google search for “palin eloped” or some such in one of the tabs.
I found out later though more research that they met at high school, so I did variations of that, high, high school, eventually hit on “Wasilla high” I promptly changed the password to popcorn and took a cold shower…
>> rubico 09/17/08(Wed)12:58:04 No.85782727
this is all verifiable if some anal /b/tard wants to think Im a troll, and there isn’t any hard proof to the contrary, but anyone who had followed the thread from the beginning to the 404 will know I probably am not, the picture I posted this topic with is the same one as the original thread.
I read though the emails… ALL OF THEM… before I posted, and what I concluded was anticlimactic, there was nothing there, nothing incriminating, nothing that would derail her campaign as I had hoped, all I saw was personal stuff, some clerical stuff from when she was governor…. And pictures of her family
I then started a topic on /b/, peeps asked for pics or gtfo and I obliged, then it started to get big
Earlier it was just some prank to me, I really wanted to get something incriminating which I was sure there would be, just like all of you anon out there that you think there was some missed opportunity of glory, well there WAS NOTHING, I read everything, every little blackberry confirmation… all the pictures, and there was nothing, and it finally set in, THIS internet was serious business, yes I was behind a proxy, only one, if this shit ever got to the FBI I was fucked, I panicked, i still wanted the stuff out there but I didn’t know how to rapidshit all that stuff, so I posted the pass on /b/, and then promptly deleted everything, and unplugged my internet and just sat there in a comatose state
Then the white knight fucker came along, and did it in for everyone, I trusted /b/ with that email password, I had gotten done what I could do well, then passed the torch , all to be let down by the douchebaggery, good job /b/, this is why we cant have nice things
The “white knight fucker” was the /b/tard who thought that going through Sarah Palin’s email wasn’t cool. He logged in, changed the password, and sent an email to a friend of Palin’s warning her and letting her know the new password. Unfortunately, he then posted a screenshot of this email to let the other /b/tards know their fun was over. He failed to blank the password, and they all tried to log in and change the password — which tripped the automated Yahoo! freeze. Since then, the account has been deleted. “Rapidshit” refers to rapidshare.com — i.e., rubico wanted to download the emails, put them into one file, and put that file up on rapidshare for /b/tards and the world at large to download. But he panicked, or didn’t know how to download the emails, and so pawned that task off on Anonymous, which he didn’t realize wasn’t monolithic and in his favor.
As Paul Harvey would say, “And now you know…. the rest of the story.”

Democratic Congress May Adjourn, Leave Crisis to Fed, Treasury
"The Democratic-controlled Congress, acknowledging that it isn't equipped to lead the way to a solution for the financial crisis and can't agree on a path to follow, is likely to just get out of the way."
"Lawmakers say they are unlikely to take action before, or to delay, their planned adjournments -- Sept. 26 for the House of Representatives, a week later for the Senate. While they haven't ruled out returning after the Nov. 4 elections, they would rather wait until next year unless Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke, who are leading efforts to contain the crisis, call for help."
"One reason, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said yesterday, is that ``no one knows what to do'' at the moment."

Above and below
The Fair is coming and that is always exciting. This year it's the 60th Annual and it's a great gathering place for everyone in the now-cooler days and evenings. I'll be going. Especially fun will be the music. I've got my camp chair ready and my ears tuned and can't wait for the front porch pickin', boogie woogie, and gospel singers to take the main stage.
It's autumn so the air is slightly clearer and less humid so photos are sharper. The moon last Wednesday was pretty, above the green fields at Paoli Junction, so I snapped this with the wires crisscrossing the half moon in the purpling sky.
Yet the first frost is a long way off and we still have flowers:

Her dress may be horrible, but she called it!
I love a good chuckle on a Wall Street "Greed is Good" day!
Monday, monday, can't trust that day...
The bible tells us that the economy will be the mechanism that the antichrist will use to oppress and control the people. A free market will no longer exist. Since a free market exists now (marginally) but will not at the time of the antichrist, it stands to reason that a massive transition between capitalism and socialism must occur at some point. Since the nations' largest investment and banking institutions have gone belly-up since the start of this year: IndyMac,Freddie Mac, Fanny Mae, Bear Stearns, Lehman Bros., Merrill Lynch, and AIG........My opinion is that these facts show we are in that transition time now. Hence, a careful watch on the economy, national and global, bears keeping.
There's other news besides Wall Street and Ike, but this is enough to ponder for the day, don't you think?
Praise the Lord He is our refuge and our rock when all else seems unstable!

Bloomberg: Lehman Files for Biggest Bankruptcy as Suitors Balk
The 158-year-old firm, which survived railroad bankruptcies of the 1800s, the Great Depression in the 1930s and the collapse of Long-Term Capital Management a decade ago, filed a Chapter 11 petition with U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan today. The collapse of Lehman, which listed more than $613 billion of debt dwarfs WorldCom Inc.'s insolvency in 2002 and Drexel Burnham Lambert's failure in 1990.

Greenspan: This Is The Worst Economy I've Ever Seen
Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan offered a woeful outlook of America's economic situation on Sunday, saying the crisis with the country's financial institutions was as dire as he had ever seen in his long career, and predicting that one or more of those institutions would likely collapse in the near future.
The United States is mired in a "once-in-a century" financial crisis which is now more than likely to spark a recession, former Federal Reserve chief Alan Greenspan said Sunday.
And it's not just the US that's suffering financially:
The venerated securities firm of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. announced early Monday morning on its website it will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, stunning Wall Street and rattling financial markets around the world. Not least among them was the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, which opened with sharp losses as it echoed the news.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- After enduring one of the most dramatic days in its history, Wall Street received a climactic jolt on Monday when Lehman Brothers, a 158-year-old investment bank undermined by bad bets on real estate, said it will file for bankruptcy.
The fall of Lehman followed a wild, three-day scramble by top Wall Street executives and federal regulators who worked around the clock to come up with a solution to a still-unfolding financial crisis.

Ike cut a swath across the Carribbean and Gulf states. However, it also destroyed and damaged many homes in central US and Northeast. There are 5M without power in TX, 65,000 in LA, 1M in Ohio, half a million in NY, 25,000 in Ontario...I'd estimate that at least 7 million people now have now power and that means no sanitation, water, communications, or heating/cooling. 8 states are reporting deaths, and Labrador & Quebec just went on alert

Haiti's Prime Minister Michele Pierre-Louis has said that a series of storms may have left as many as one million Haitians without a home.
Texas faces largest blackout in its history in wake of Ike
Hurricane Ike caused the largest blackout in Texas history Saturday, affecting millions of people from Houston to Louisiana. Officials said it could take weeks to restore power, perhaps longer than in the aftermath of Hurricane Rita in 2005.
Over 2.5 million homes and businesses were affected, and the number of people without power is significantly higher. The Houston-Galveston area is home to 5.5 million people and covers an area bigger than New Jersey. The lights were out in most of it, except for downtown Houston, the medical district, and Bush Intercontinental Airport, said Terry Hadley, a spokesman for the Texas Public Utility Commission. The Beaumont-Port Arthur area, which has 300,000 residents, was also largely blacked out.

Obama coming apart
Then why on earth do the following polls have McCain ahead (except Newsweek shows a tie). Could this be? Yes. Nine major polls can't be wrong.

ABC News/Wash Post
USA Today/Gallup

Here are some opinion analysts who have some ideas as to why McCain/Palin are resonating with Americans: Obama was a flash in the pan? Euphoria superseded facts? Obama is a Muslim? Palin and McCain are the real deal? The Atlanta Journal Constitution, Washington Post, and Reuters are a few of the recent opinions to try and figure out why Obama is deflating like a balloon. Click headline for the full story.
Panic sets in for Obama, Democrats
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Barack Obama knows it. The election he had in the bag is slipping away.
The selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as John McCain’s running mate has so thrown him off stride, as it has most other Democrats, that all the momentum he had has vanished. He’s getting panicky advice from everywhere. He intends to launch more and sharper attacks, abandoning any pretense of a new and different, more civil campaign. Democrats know something, and desperation is setting in.
----------------------------------
Palin steals Obama's fading spotlight
WASHINGTON — The Democrats are in a panic. In a presidential race that is impossible to lose, they are behind. Obama devotees are frantically giving advice. Tom Friedman tells him to "start slamming down some phones." Camille Paglia suggests, "be boring!"
Meanwhile, a posse of Democratic lawyers, mainstream reporters, lefty bloggers and various other Obamaphiles are scouring the vast tundra of Alaska for something, anything, to bring down Sarah Palin: her daughter's pregnancy, her ex-brother-in-law problem, her $60 per diem, and now her religion. (CNN reports — news flash! — that she apparently has never spoken in tongues.) Not since Henry II asked if no one would rid him of his turbulent priest, have so many so urgently volunteered for duty.
Obama tries to regain his stride
Reuters
The emergence of Palin, an anti-abortion and pro-gun conservative who electrified the party's base supporters, seemed to knock Obama off stride and propelled the Republicans into a slight lead in the November 4 election race in a flurry of national opinion polls.

5 reasons why McCain has pulled ahead
Politico.com
John McCain's surge in the polls comes even as Barack Obama has inherited the most favorable Democratic environment since the Watergate era — an unpopular Republican president, an unpopular war and a flagging economy. Suddenly, though, Democrats have found themselves in a world turned upside down, where Republicans have the momentum

Obama falling to pieces
Obama falling to pieces
Polls show him down and sinking deeper By Paulie
"Having a bounce in the polls is expected for a Presidential candidate after their Party convention. In recent history Democrats such as Michael Dukakis, Al Gore and John Kerry saw heavy surges in the polls after their big events, only to loose on the first Tuesday in November. So deep concerns must of engulfed the Obama campaign when polls showed him receiving no bounce to four points at best."
"The McCain campaign deserves credit for controlling the political conversation after Obama gave his Hollywood style speech. The media discussed his acceptance address for less than 24 hours and then it was time to add "change" to the campaign in the form of GOP Vice President candidate Sarah Palin."
"Since Palin was introduced to America as well as the world, any traction Obama gained had dwindled. Since her speech at the Republican convention and McCain's the next day, the polls began favoring the Arizona senator. Today Obama and his running-mate, you know, whats his name the plagiarism dude, are down in every poll and there is no end to their free fall in sight."
"Making matters worse for the Democratic ticket is their allies in the media are also falling from grace. Obama loyalists Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann have been dropped from anchoring live political events for MSNBC."
And this blogger has a way with words and a correct opinion if I do say so myself.
"She's destroying Obama, who was entirely ripe for the skewering. In any case, Obama is going down, and she's the one doing it to him. Just a couple of particularly choice zings in her big convention speech delivered just the right way about mayors vs. community organizers and styrofoam Greek columns most particularly, and Obama's still flying randomly around the room a week later as the air escapes like a deflating balloon."
"So now Obama is clearly behind McCain for the first time in this campaign, and Obama and his minions are desperate to knock ol' girl down. They haven't been able to lay a glove on her, so now Obama himself is descending from his Olympian perch to spend his precious limited campaign time attacking the other guy's veep."
And even Politico.com: "Barack Obama and his Democratic allies are intensifying their attacks on Sarah Palin as her sustained and surprising central role in this race is upending Obama’s strategy and often overshadowing McCain. But it is very unusual, if not unprecedented, for a vice presidential pick to dominate a campaign in a sustained manner the way Palin has. And there is good reason to believe it won’t end anytime soon."
"Let’s start with the media’s obsession with her. She is a fascinating “first” for the media to dissect: a female Republican vice presidential nominee with celebrity appeal. She is only beginning a string of media interviews — and continues to draw crowds McCain never could. Expect a flood of coverage off her two day interview with ABC’s Charlie Gibson this week."
"The nonpartisan Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism found that between Sept. 1 and 7 Palin was a bigger presence in the news than McCain or Obama. She seems an even hotter topic online, with blogs, gossip sites and media sites exploding with Palin coverage — some of it pretty darn wacky."
No topic is sparking more traffic or reader comment than Palin stories on Politico’s site this past week. As of Tuesday afternoon, 11 of the 12 most-read stories on Huffington Post were about Palin.

Woo-hoo! This is fun! Ain't politics grand
Mr. Jere Ayers
Much has been written about Mr. Jere. Zach Mitcham of the Madison County Journal wrote about him in 2004 as Mr. Jere was receiving the Citizen of the Year award from the Lions's Club. Friendly rivals, later the Madison Journal company bought The Comer News and Danielsville Monitor after Mr. Jere's death.
This is a nice story by Lee Shearer of the Athens Banner Herald. And with no other family member to take over, within a few months of Mr Jere's death, the papers folded. The family had owned them for almost 100 years.
Wayne Ford of the Athens Banner Herald wrote about Mr Jere in 2007, after looking at the sad plate glass window still bearing 'The Comer News' sign on it.
The last editor of the Comer News, Jennifer Fogal, also wrote, fondly remembering Mr. Jere. And this article was about the last edition.
And this past July, when the news broke that the Georgia Department of Transportation had approved a section of Rt 98 to be dedicated in his name, once again, Mr. Jere was in the news. Take a moment to read the Proclamation, it gives a sense of the mettle of the man this county misses so much.

Time to let them go
Upgrading churches to meet safety standards is beyond the financial capacity of many congregations, and maintaining historic municipal buildings is beyond the tax revenue of many towns. Below, the church steps were damaged where the spire crashed.
In the town of Gray Maine, there has been an ongoing discussion of what to do with Stimson, Pennell, the old Town Hall (became the old fire station, now it's empty). The key to successful preservation in many places seems to be releasing the buildings to developers who will rehab them and bring them back to their former glory., Such a process benefits everyone, including the developer, who knows that preservation and attractive town centers bring customers.
The town of Gray has utterly failed in its municipal endeavor to preserve these buildings, and the protracted fight has only served allow the buildings to fail further. If the town cannot find a solution, give/sell Pennell and the others to legitimate developers to do what they know best. Below, Pennell Institute's steps deteriorated due to road salt exposure.
It has worked magnificently in so many other places, from

Comer GA : Comer is Madison County’s most populous town, and certain areas are designated as an historic district. Comer’s Historic Downtown Area is currently experiencing several restoration and revitalization projects" as described here. Over a million in grant money has been given and construction starts this year.
Sell those albatrosses, Gray, and work with a knowledgeable developer to restore the buildings. Municipalities are not in the business of developing, developers are. And given the heartache and negativity around Pennell for the last 7 years, I say let someone else start anew.

An oxymoron, for sure
From the AP: Obama discussing why he did not answer the question at Saddleback by Rick Warren about when does life begin:
"WASHINGTON - Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama acknowledged Sunday that he was probably too flip when he said it was "above my pay grade" to answer a question about when is a baby entitled to human rights.
Obama gave his answer last month at a nationally televised religious forum sponsored by minister Rick Warren at his megachurch in Orange County, Calif.
Asked on Sunday whether the "above my pay grade" answer was too flip, Obama said: "Probably. ...What I intended to say is that, as a Christian, I have a lot of humility about understanding when does the soul enter into ... It's a pretty tough question."
Apparently. Obama was distracted by trying to figure out how to boast about having a lot of humility in a humble way.

The gentle and still evening brought out the ultralight aviators. They took off from the field along Rt 98 and were buzzing around near Paoli Junction. I stopped by the side of the road to watch and enjoy. What a nice night it was for them!
