There is a new website out by the Maine Heritage Policy Center. It lists where all the money in the state goes. Their blurb:
"We are giving Mainers a new, clear look into how our state and local tax dollars are spent... down to the agency, person, and penny. This site is sponsored by The Maine Heritage Policy Center, a non-partisan, non-profit research and education organization promoting free enterprise, limited government and individual liberty."
It is fruitful to look and see where our money goes. A billion dollars in tax money was paid out last year, to payroll, retirement, and vendors. Government should be transparent, and I'm glad there are such organizations that take the time to post public information.
You can also search for payments to State retirees from every branch of government, and the colleges. You can search for vendors paid by the state, by town even. I searched for payments to vendors in Gray and New Gloucester. Below, I did a search for MSAD 15. The results list all 481 employees' salaries for 2007. 2008 will be posted soon. Four hundred eighty one! Boy that's a lot. I sorted by salary and the top Administrators came out on top, I list them below. I have no idea why some entries are posted twice for the same year...
