The Many Changing Moods of a Fall Sunrise

It's late fall in Georgia, which means we still have warm temperatures, still have birds in the air, and still have leaves on the trees. There are even flowers blooming here and there. It will eventually change, of course. We'll have cold weather, frost, dark and rainy days, and sometimes even snow. But the leisurely fall is something I always mourned the absence of when I lived in Maine for 30 years. Fall in Maine is more of a sprint, a short burst of color and low humidity with startlingly azure skies. Then poof, it's gone. Winter settles in quickly and depressingly. Sunshine is in short supply. The dark lasts most of every day. Winter is a lengthy season. Fall seems to be one of the shortest.

However, in Georgia, the seasons seem equally spread out in the calendar. Fall is one among four other seasons that have their time. And what a time. I do miss the vividness of the foliage in New England. Leaves in their yellows, reds, oranges, and golds are extremely bright and lovely to look at. The foliage in New England in Fall is unparalleled.

But with it comes harsh temperatures that force one to bundle up in the shuddering, teeth chattering, snow and sleet scraping, snow tires swap, boots clomping, feet stomping, cabin fever cold.

Not so here. A few cold days may be followed by a week of mild. The penetrating and settling-in frigidity of a months long New England Winter is absent and instead we have a pleasing array of landscapes and temperatures, with outdoor activities still a possibility throughout.

I experienced a gorgeous sunrise this morning. I went out in just my sweats and shirt and walked up the street a bit taking photos of these scenes. No frost came out of my mouth. No shiver passed over my body. I was in 54 comfortable degrees, ambling around the property with my walking stick, in the pure quiet (except for the hearty and vigorously cockadoodledoing rooster).

The weather has a lot to do with mood. When I see the impressive and dramatic skies, I think of my Lord who created it. I come back inside to RefNet.fm and listen to majestic hymns, feeling warm because He has given me a comfortable home, well-appointed. This has been a delightful morning, and I'm grateful.

These scenes are at my home, within a ten minute span. The Changing Moods of Sunrise in Georgia!

Friday: from sunrise to closing song, it was a good day

My favorite parts of the week are Friday nights and early Saturday mornings. There's a sweet relief of having made it through the week and then being able to come home and just exhale.

Saturday mornings before dawn are pregnant with weekend possibilities. What shall I do with this time I'm afforded? Craft? Cook? Read? Nap? Anything is possible with the dawn's early rays still below the horizon and all is quiet.

Yesterday was a great day. On the way to work there is this one spot junction that always has beautiful sunrises,

and some days they are just spectacular,

There is a 4-way stop with an old timey (closed) General Store on one corner

A convenience store on the other, and the industrial park on the third. The Middle School is located here, some chicken houses, an engineering/electrical company, and fields. Even the industrial park is picturesque.

But on the fourth corner, ahhh, this is the one everyone loves. It is a canola field and when canola blooms it is gorgeous.

The field is atop a long, slow rise on all sides, so you get these dramatic cloud formations, with the "Christina's World" aspect of the old store and run-down house next to it.

You can see the local fascination with the location on this Flickr page. Many other photographers have stomped these fields to get just the right vantage point for the house, store, fields, and dramatic sky with clouds. An independent movie company recently filmed some sequences here. It's funny to see on Internet Movie Database "Filming locations, Comer Georgia". LOL.

Anyway, my day began with a dramatically painted sunrise over the field, gorgeous colors and silence except for dawn light breeze.

It was a good day, and finished sweetly at the end with songs.

I was on duty in a classroom, watching some kids who were going to line up for car riders. Their teacher had brought the bus riders to the bus line. During the five minute interim or so, we have some down time. On a Friday afternoon with five or 7 extra minutes to kill, until they left for home, it could get wild unless I engaged the kids in something. There were about twenty. As they sat on the rug, all packed up with their little bookbags on, these little first graders looked so cute. I said, "hey, boys and girls is there a song someone wants to sing?"

Some hands shot up, and I picked a boy I knew liked to sing and I knew he would remember the words. He stood and sang a song about Jesus.

A second girl wanted to sing and I let her because she is usually shy. She also sang a song about Jesus. All the kids looked at the singers and listened patiently and clapped approvingly when he and she were done. Then a third girl stood up and she sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. It wasn't more than a few notes when one or two others began to sing, then a few more, and by the last line, all twenty children were warbling it out in their best little voices. It was as if I could see the notes in the air ascending to heaven with Jesus looking down and loving His children so much. Even the kids felt it too, their union of hearts and voices through song and a small sweet moment to end the week.

So my day began with a sunrise and ended with children singing, and all is well.

This weekend I plan to cook cream of carrot soup; roast cauliflower, potatoes and Hatch chili peppers; and make oatmeal/banana cookie bars. I also plan to nap. Of course, all those plans could be interrupted if the Lord returns. And that is more than all right by me.

Early morning photos

It's so pretty out and the birds are so lively I went out to take some photos.

A lonely birdhouse waiting for an occupant

Looking down the driveway across the street. The sun comes up here

The back yard and hayfield adjacent. I really love this view. I take a lot of pictures of it. The photo doesn't show it well but the mist is filmy and the sun is just turning the skies pink

Blue skies with the occasional chemtrail

I like how the sun which is now over the horizon is streaming next door and lighting up the tin on the neighbor's barn, and his shed with ladder

Pink!

School tomorrow

Tomorrow I go back to school. We have four days of meetings, pre-planning and setting up rooms and then Friday the kids come back. The yellow school buses will roll out once again, and again and again, for the next 180 days. Or so.

Every year it's different- my daily tasks as a special education para-professional are to meet the needs of the children in the program who have been identified as needing such and such for so many minutes per day. Which kids I support, in which classrooms I support them, and how that support is meted out depends on the needs of each child who comes in. So year to year it changes. I'll know more when I go to school this week and all the regular education and special education kindergarten teachers hash out the schedule and then they will hand it to me and I'm good to go.

Seeing as how I am going to rise with the sun for the first time since May 30th...here are a few photos to remind me of what the world looks like at that time.
