New glasses

The Lenscrafters next to Barnes and Noble has an Optometry office inside. It makes for a great experience, eyes checked, oops need stronger glasses, scoot through the arch and pick some out, and in an hour, presto, they are ready!

I also liked how the Dr. had things arranged. I went into an exam room and there were four machines, the tech had me take a test on each of the machines, from left to right. She escorted me across the hall and by the time we got there my retinal photo was developed and onscreen in the Doc's office.

I had a "significant" change in prescription, nothing to do with age, ha ha. Sigh. No glaucoma in sight and my retinas look great. Since my frame screws were continually loosening, I invested in new frames. Get this, at Christmas service during the hymn, my lens popped out and flew into the pew ahead of me. People next to me were trying not to laugh, and I was scrambling to find the lens before the hymn finished & the people standing in front of me sat back down . The service was an eye opening experience. Ha ha.

Lenscrafters was having a $100 off sale so I was happy to buy new frames. Choosing them was a trial though. I don't like shopping.

In impatience, I picked ones almost exactly the same as the ones I had. As I was checking out, my friend brought over a pair from across the room. "Try these."

I put them on and voila! Perfect. And Dolce and Gabbana, to boot.

About the hair: I just took a headband out of my hair so it's swept off my forehead and crumpled. The ends are copper, the remains of the last coloring. It really looks stunning, all done properly. People are commenting. This week I'll get it trimmed, I think it's long enough to get the last of that color out. All silver!

New hair, new glasses. I'm getting there.

Happy Tuesday

Some random thoughts

I bought a Canon LIDE series 90 scanner and I LOVE IT. The thing is ridiculously easy to use and it scans up to 600 dpi. It's fast, color-accurate, and best of all, only uses a USB cord. No electricity, it plugs right into your computer. The OCR is pretty accurate and it even lets you make .pdfs. It is slim, light, and did I say, I love it? I've been putting up a lot of old photos I have around on 35 mm to my flickr page.

I got a waffle maker from Freecycle recently, and I made waffles for the first time ever yesterday. I feel like a grownup now.

I am letting my hair color go bye-bye. After coloring it for over ten years I decided to dispense with the color processing and time and mess and expense and let it go au natural. My hair is gray, 100%, but I am thrilled to report it is a silvery waterfall dew in the morning sort of gray. My hair is thick and way anyway so the added bonus of a luxuriant variation of a gray color is nice. Here is an article about other women enjoying their gray.

From the Overheard in Athens blog:

Girl: I just finished my first final. The question was "What is life?"
Professor: It's a fine magazine and a delicious cereal.

I didn't say they were big thoughts. Just random.
