Relay for Life 2008

Our Madison County Relay for Life 2008 concluded this morning, just before the rain started down. I think this is the first year we didn't have a soaker coming down at some point during the nearly 18-hour event! My church had a team walking and many of the other members contributed baked goods to sell for the fundraiser.

"Dedicated volunteers are committed to fighting cancer in their communities year-round, but once a year, they gather at Relay For Life to celebrate survivors and caregivers, remember loved ones lost and to gain inspiration for the fight."

"Each of the more than 4,800 Relays nationwide is a fun-filled, overnight event that mobilizes communities to celebrate survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer), remember loved ones and raise money for the fight against cancer. Teams of eight to 15 members gather with tents and sleeping bags with the goal of keeping on person on the track at all times." Why all night? Because cancer never sleeps.

Above, two members of our team walk the track amid the encircling luminaries. At dusk the luminary Ceremony of Hope begins, to honor cancer survivors and to remember loved ones lost to cancer.

Above, the bubble machine attracted children of all ages, who charmingly try to capture the ephemeral globule.

The bubbles attracted more than children, perhaps also...the photographer! A bazillion bubbles are released over the tent top.

So pretty!

Don't you love little kids and their "in their own world" performances?

Wednesday night bible study cutie comment

On Wednesday night bible study, I was finishing up the ten plagues of Egypt with my first graders. They are soooo cute.

We read about all the fish dying in the river of blood....and one of my li'l boys raised his hand.

Yes?
Did the dead fish have X's for eyes?

Slumber party!

Church chicks slumber partying tonight! A bunch of us women of all ages from church are gathering to have a sleep-over party tonight. We've got the soda chilling, the pizzas on order, the cakes are arriving, and at last count we have two guitars and a piano on premises. Woo-hoo! should be a great time!
