Visual journal: Bird in mailbox

There's a bird in the mailbox. She's sitting on some eggs. Not wanting to stress her out too much, I left her alone all week.

Then surprise! This:

Yes, the yard is still there

With the heat gone (for now) and the rain gone, I took a walk this afternoon around the yard and up the street. It was very quiet here, the town empty, with folks either at the lake to the east or the huge parade and small town event to the west.

The sheep are looking good!

We had some needed and gentle rain for a while this morning. It was welcome. And the birds seemed to enjoy the leftover puddles

The rain sprung up some bouquets of mushrooms, lol. This yard seems to host the most interesting kinds of mushrooms.

The greenery has grown so tremendously. All the trees and bushes seem so much bigger this year. I'm grateful for their beauty and noise buffer. The crepe myrtle are doing well. Quite colorful.

Fence with greenery. It's one of the borders to the sheep pasture.

Is it a cloud? Is it my hair? LOL, it's pretty white. Need sunglasses.

An angry bird!

A few days ago whenever I went outside, anywhere outside, an angry bird would follow me and swoop, chatter, yowl, and hop from fence point to fence point. He'd ruffle his feathers, fly from tree to tree, and generally wake the dead.

This is one of his quieter moments
He was hoppin' mad here
As you can see. He is yelling up a storm
Look at his claws! Neither are even touching the fence!
Up and down that fence he went, yelling the whole time.

My crime? Hanging laundry.

Backyard beauty

Later I'll post some shots of the inside, cats galore, lounging and relaxing.

My cats went bananas so I went to see

what they were so hopped up about.

I have a wrought iron hanging shelf right next to my door, where I put pots of flowers in spring and summer to adorn the entry. I had not known that this little bird had decided to make use of the currently empty shelf. He is about one foot away from eye level at the door, and my cats (well, Luke anyway) sit on the tall shelf inside the door and look at this bird on the shelf outside the door.

Here, I snuck open the front door and amazingly the li'l bird didn't budge.

He finally did after the flash startled him, flying to the dogwood across the way and presenting his back to me.

Evidently deciding it was safer to huddle under the eave of the higher part of the roof a ways away, he stayed there for a few minutes pondering his next move.
